Bloomin'

Curmudgeonly critic Harold Bloom, a contemporary champion of Gnosticism who portrayed Mormon founder Joseph Smith as a uniquely American religious genius, had unkind words for Christian Science founder Mary Baker Eddy. To him she was
"an extraordinary wreck, a monumental hysteric of classical dimensions, indeed a kind of anthology of nineteenth-century nervous ailments."

Not nice. But very droll.

Ah, the "Jesus was against vaccines" crowd. I've never had much time for religions that prescribed prayer and nothing else to correct problems. Especially the ones that teach against worldly methods of fixing problems.

My infallible teaching of the Thirteen on disease: disease is caused by organisms that arose through the Godhead-created mechanism of evolution. Some of these organisms interact with the human body in such a way that causes humans to fall ill, in some cases fatally. You are morally obligated to enact practical safeguards to protect yourself and your family against disease. You are morally obligated to give your loved ones and yourself treatment for disease, unless the treatment is financially ruinous or excessively painful.

Never let it be said that religion cannot be logical!

And apparently Mrs Eddy made use of doctors quite extensively in the latter years of her life.

She was the Louise Hay of her time.
