Prometheus

Ridley Scott doing his thing in his prequel to Alien. Impressive computer special effects. Everything else is either derivative or really preposterous. And I mean really preposterous.

Never saw this one. A friend gave me a brief plot synopsis and I said, "Oh, so it's 2001: A Space Odyssey, only with sci-fi horror and a lot more stupid dialogue?" :)

The "God was just a species of advanced aliens who genetically engineered humans" trope is getting tired. I think any popular sci-fi work (except for Star Wars, maybe) hasn't touched on it at least briefly. No evidence for it whatsoever, but it's supposed to be more plausible than "An extra-universal being created the universe with its specific parameters to get a species that resembles it." Why, because it features things within the confines of the universe?

Yeah, the alien seeding theme is pretty old. Figured in Star Trek, as well as being fundamental to the X Files mythology. Ancient archetypal stuff, with the aliens replacing the gods. Jung saw the UFO phenomenon as continuous with that, a sign of our indelible myth-making nature.
